February 24, 2021-Cognitive Flexibility to find new balance

Hello February,

when something takes us out of balance, literally or metaphorically, how do we establish a new balance? Has it ever happened to you, when one year you have 28 days and another 29?

Cognitive flexibility is something I read about, and it seems very appropriate to develop a new sense of balance and resilience.

After having some vertigo, I was told it is important to walk out and to use my brain to a new sense of balance. It’s probably the same when something is disturbing our mental or emotional balance.

A new one needs to be established and a flexibility in the way we see things is important.

I was talking to a friend who is looking for the love of her life during the pandemic. She mentions that she is decided to meet someone, but she excludes any form of online communication. In my eyes, this is a bit restrictive.

But I realise, that I am equally set in my ways, when someone else points out a way of action I don’t approve.

I might be more open in one respect, and closed and fixed in another.

But if we change everything, will we have principles after all? A strong sense of self?

Probably if we dissociate strong from fixed.

Strong is flexible. Strong is not afraid to mutate and to change.

I seem to believe that not many people will understand me and accept my lifestyle and goals.

Is this actually true?

Have I formulated and communicated what I want and believe to other people or spent more time hiding it to fit in?

That is something to consider 🙂

May 3, 2020- How to change disappointment into motivation and action

Hello May,

I woke up with the best intentions, walked by myself, had coffee, and then it hit me: a negative answer from a publisher on a piece of work. A piece I have worked and worked over for several years.

Not to mention, it has been rejected a few times.

I can’t describe my feelings. Anger, he doesn’t understand, feeling miserable for myself, here is where I ended with all these rejections… more general statements about my life etc.

Then, I thought: let’s change that.

Indeed, I need to do something differently.

To begin with, to tell myself: I DESERVE THE BEST IN LIFE, as everybody else.

Why?

Try, why not?

Planet Earth is bountiful.

So, second step: I need help. Let’s go around and ask for some.

Let’s identify people who could help me.

Then, get some chocolate.

And also, think whether there is a better strategy.

There is something simple which could be done in a different way.

Something which is related to the packaging.

And let’s dance a bit!

And let’s also do something I like a lot, like, write a new poem

April 23, 2020- Self-pampering and resilience after a cat scratch

Hello April,

here I am again, at home, after being scratched by my parents’ cat-Bella; she wanted to be petted, but then it was too much and she scratched me. Well, how do you change your mood to positive without letting a random event become an excuse for grumpiness?

Some chocolate might help actually.

Also some self-pampering.

Showering ourself with extra love if our cat is not doing that today.

A piece of chocolate

Some affirmations

Grooming ourselves

Giving ourselves a hug and a medal for something we did:re

March 31, 2020- Thriving in times of COVID19 storm- Resilience

Hello March,

a few years ago I started this blog to help me navigate through challenging times: I was loosing my almost job, and I didn’t know what direction to take exactly.

I see myself now, grateful for the present.

It might also be challenging in different ways.

But being here, interacting with friends who brought their perspective, has made a big change.

Tomorrow is the birthday of this blog. A six year anniversary, when I decided to blog every day, for three months at the beginning: April to June.

And I did.

I might have blogged less later on, but it still felt right to continue: From Paris, to London, to the South of France and then London again.

I am now in my hometown, waiting for the COVID storm to pass while I try to do my best by self-isolating as much as possible.

So, since we do everything on line, I decided to come back to my hometown for as long as necessary.

Tomorrow it’s my blog’s birthday, and I decide to blog again every day, and make something out of it:

October 31, 2018- Bounce Back Big, day 30- Halloween strengths

Dear October,

Happy Halloween by the way! I am to go around with some friend’s kids for treat or trick, close to a neighbourhood where there are a lot of Americans who celebrate decorating their homes 🙂

Before that, I write on my blog 🙂

A blog friend, davidjrogersftw has mentioned that he would like to see me as “to be the star of your life–proud, more confident despite setbacks–that kind of strength”. I couldn’t agree more.

What am I searching? Among other things, I am searching a “home”, where I can live, create and learn with other loving people. To live from my creations.

Up to now, I have changed countries, I had successes and setbacks, and I am jobless right now.

So, this is a concern. And it might include feelings of guilt: “am I doing something wrong”? and “is there something wrong with me”?

In reality, a lot of things can get better. And a lot of things are not exactly my “fault” but have to do with more general trends.

So, how do I feel proud and confident when I consider that I am hiding part of my reality?

When I realize that most people share the same feelings.

And that some of our biggest vulnerabilities are our biggest strengths.

April 29, 2018- How to turn sadness into creativity

Hello April,

my spring break involved some challenges on family member’s health problems, and here I am, in my hometown, dealing with challenging realities and feelings.

My fears are not only with that, but with the kind of impact it can have into my life. Because, let’s face it, there is some percentage of selfishness in our worry for people close to us.

So, how can I choose a better feeling thought?

To begin with, this experience, helps me put things into perspective. Job insecurity, money or other similar questions are secondary to health.

Then, it’s like, how about feeling I have been struggling in a certain direction without getting into a place where I can say, I have accomplished something I can keep with me.

A place to rest. As if my successes were not stepping-stones.

But is this true?

Not really.

Actually, I have learnt to rebound after pretty challenging situations.

Somehow, I found solutions.

I have become resilient.

Then, let’s face it, security was not my number 1 goal.

A meaningful experience is my goal.

And I feel gratitude towards myself and others, to have worked in this direction.

I feel grateful for my friends standing by me.

I feel grateful for the wonderful job I have been doing.

These are challenging times for everyone. We need to give it our best.
