February 22- “Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it.”

Dear February,

I meant to do a lot of things today, but I finally had a very close relationship with my couch and my bed’s quilt for the first part of the day. Outside it was raining, and only latter I met some friends for brunch. It was nice to catch up. Among them, there was a “tourist”, friend of a friend, who just arrived in Paris and had a few questions.

“Where can I find contemporary artists and painters”? He asked me. Are there cafés, bars, specific places, as we see in films of the “Midnight in Paris” type?

Another friend answered he should visit these ancient hangouts but he shouldn’t expect anything similar today, but I am much more optimistic.

There might not be “a” particular café for all the intelligentsia of Paris. Still, there are a lot of artists, of every kind, Parisians and people visiting, “intermittent du spectacle”, writers, actors and actrices, philosophers.

Much more scattered I think than during the “golden era”, as it is represented in films. Now there are social media and may be there is a different way to work. In my neighborhood for example, I see well-known authors, or at the place we branched there are a lot of actors and people of the media.

Are they as brilliant as …X, Y, Z? How would we know for sure?

When Van Gogh was trying to sell his paintings no one was interested. They worshiped painters who have been forgotten and we have never heard of today.

If there is a flow of ideas, imagination, creativity, things happen.

But you still need time to discover. And the eyes to see 🙂

November 7- Mission accomplished, project submitted!

Dear November,

I did it! I submitted my funding proposal on time! At 23.3o tonight! Do you know the post-office of the Louvre? Oh, you never needed to post anything, sorry, I forget that you are not human!

That is where I found myself at almost midnight in Paris. The post-office of the Louvre is the one that stays open 24 hours a day. If you need to have something sent -it could be something to pay, or an application with a deadline, in Paris, you can go there at midnight minus one minute and get the stamp that you mailed it this day.

It has something of a Cinderella air about it, you see 🙂

I have already some stories with it, myself running to apply for something, at the really last-minute, taking a taxi to go faster, falling into some kind of traffic jam, the driver feeling for me and leaving his taxi to make sure I get my parcel on time with the right stamp, and then getting into a fight with the lady who is serving at the post-office.

Is it just to me that things like that happen?

What is miraculous, is that I did it!

Last night I didn’t get much sleep, and I was up at six in the morning, working on the different aspects of this proposal. At some point I needed a USB stick, and the shop accross the street had a last one. And it looked like a toy-owl! I started laughing. Could I be taken seriously with an pink owl-USB stick for my written project?

I don’t know, but it is so much fun, the pink owl made my day!

July 5- Walking in Paris

Dear July,

I came back home on foot after having been out with some friends for a drink. We started a discussion on the future of the world, and this is not the kind of topic that can end in half an hour. When we checked the time, it was already a past the last metro time.

I was not that far from home, in other words it was a walking distance, so I decided to try it. That was a good moment to reflect on changes and objectives;

The neighborhood is quiet, I felt at ease walking by myself at 2.00 in the morning. But I would have liked someone who would walk with me.

I thought about blogging also. It has been fun, but if I continue, I would like to be clear about my purpose. I would like to have a thread that links the first part, april to june, to the second.

It should be July to September, I decided. In any case, I will submit my application for the second round of the funding, by August 5. Then, results might come by the beginning of october. So there is something very concrete I try to do.

Does it have to do with self-transformation?

Well, I think I need to continue the process, in other words, I need to become the person who will be fit for the type of job, and the type of relationship I would like to experience
