April 17, 2015- Trekking and clearing my mind

Dear April,

thanks to the nice weather you have offered us, I started a new habit in my hometown: a morning trek, or to be more honest, a walk in the beautiful paths nearby.

Don’t imagine anything very sporty: it is a half an hour, or an hour walk, every morning, the last few days. Looking at the beautiful flowers, grass and trees feels so very inspiring!

I like to take nobody else than myself in this brief walk. I barely nod to people or animals which might cross my path. This is a moment to observe and clear my mind from all sort of clutter: thoughts which crowded my mind in my last Parisian days. A spring break’s objective is to bring me closer to spring, and let new ideas emerge!

Sometimes I bring my iPod for some music, or something inspirational. Other times, nothing at all. I keep walking, listening to the birds, smelling the earth and flowers.

Something else I would like to do is to refresh my driving skills. I don’t have a car in Paris, but it is another “physical activity” that helps me feel different. A friend has promised to give me some free lessons in hers, so we will see what will come out of it 🙂

In any case, I realize that I need more play and fun, so the spring break is here to help me change perspective and format my hard drive 🙂

April 14, 2015- Looking for beautiful spots in the South of France

April hello,

I was checking beautiful places because a friend of mine from Flanders, the Northern part of Belgium will come to visit and will look for a beautiful place to buy in the South of France.

I don’t know his budget, but it is difficult to decide between the “Hautes Alpes” and the Côte d’Azur. It depends on the person’s mood and taste I guess. To me, most places are beautiful, I would have a hard time to pick up just one.

In any case this will be a nice break to help me see my priorities right now.

I am not an expert on property, but I can help as an interpreter and also know people and places here and there 🙂

April 6, 2015- Dreaming of a skunk :-)

Dear April,

have you ever dreamt of a skunk? That is what happened to me last night. It was quiet a big one, the size of a medium size dog, beautiful, and I was holding him playfully in my arms. We were best friends, so to speak. I wasn’t afraid of him and he seemed pretty comfortable with me.

Now, I think that the last time I have heard of these animal is back to school, or in children’s cartoons, years ago. Not recently anyway.

So I googled the animal, and a lot of nice ideas came up. To begin with, it seems that there is a symbolism of skunks. I will adopt the information which I like better. So a skunk seems to be related to:

  • Defense
  • Prudence
  • Protection
  • Confidence
  • Awareness
  • Pacification
  • Effectiveness
  • Good judgement
  • Skunks seem to be naturally buoyant. They go through life with a calm assurance, and exude a peaceful energy that is extremely attractive to others.

Do we have “totems animals”? I wouldn’t know what to say.

Neither do I know how I ended up being good friends with the beautiful skunk in my dream. But it was fun and I definitely need to integrate these qualities to my day-to-day interactions.

The Easter holiday is over and tomorrow I will be in the middle of negotiations, new projects and professional beginnings 🙂

March 2- Welcome March!

Welcome dear March!

You arrived with sun, rain, and wind, we didn’t know in what rhythm to dance today in Paris; but this is spring, and this is also how love makes you feel I guess 🙂

Do the “in-love” couples at my usual café become more numerous, or is it me who has become more attentive to the demonstration of love?

In any case, spring is arriving fast and the light in the city is different, we all feel excited with the expectation of new life!

New love, old love appearing again, love is in the air.

How about work? How about it? My mind seems to be floating since Sunday, but I feel very alert, so I sense that things will go smoothly 😉

Spring is a type of regeneration of nature, and we are part of it, so we reborn in a way;

And we inevitably transform and find in us forces we ignored a while ago!

February 25- In the mood for an exotic island

Dear February,

what would you suggest in terms of an exotic island? Just to motivate myself I started day-dreaming of beautiful weather, beaches, and people. Isn’t this a good compensation for the serious and efficient work I have been doing ;-)?

In Europe? I don’t know. Let’s say that I am open to suggestions. What is my budget? I don’t see what you mean.

The Greek islands for something near by? Yes, I have friends who are crazy in love with them.

Hawaii? Tahiti? I might try Bora-Bora for example. A good friend of mine was sent to Tahiti for work and came back completely enchanted 🙂

But in the meanwhile, getting close to nature, even a small park, might do 🙂

September 24 – How to be a Tiger

Dear September,

I have committed in writing every day, so we will keep each other company for the next few days.

By the way, I sent my manuscript to a new publishing house and have a good feeling about it;

In this way I am moving in the direction of my heart’s desire. This action has fuelled up my motivation and chased the feeling of helplessness that was dwelling around.

I was picturing myself alone, misunderstood, with a mountain of challenges to face. Like a damsel in despair at the approach of a dreadful dragon.

The film “the Life of Pi”, released in 2012, that I watched recently, somehow inspired me: Pi, a shipwreck victim, is an Indian adolescent. He is stranded on a life boat with a tiger that was transferred on the ship, and he finds a way to survive in its  company. The film is extremely rich in meanings, but I will just choose a point of view relevant to my experience:

I dreamt of myself as a Tiger. There was another animal attacking me, and I was hopelessly trying to defend myself or make it go. Then, I had to come to a realization: I  can’t escape or win, as I am right now. I need to transform into something else, something more powerful. And there it was, I became a huge Tiger, roaring. That settled everything.

As a tiger, I need to change my eating habits. I think we eat on average six kilos of meet a day. Also sleeping hours;  and I need a territory to chase. But I will figure out everything.

The most important is that no Platform animal should come bother me if it is the moment for starters 😉

September 14- our Galaxy

Dear September,

this Sunday I have given a visit to the Palais de la Découverte at the 16 arrondissement in Paris. Different expositions present scientific discoveries in physics, mathematics, geology, and my interest, astronomy. Quite a program!

The Planetarium, simulated the sky at night if we were at 3.000 meters of altitude and a clear atmosphere. So amazing, so overwhelming! And somewhere, a small, less bright and clear spot, the galaxy of Andromeda, that we can perceive with our eyes; not very impressive without any appropriate instrument.

But so amazing to realize we are on this beautiful planet, that seems to me the most beautiful, and to be part of a galaxy, that is in itself a small piece of a much bigger universe!

Our planet is for the time being the most hospitable place for Life;

Life in all its forms, is actually so rare and precious in the universe!

It is worth preserving and protecting for us and the generations to come!

May 24- Into the woods (4): The era of the dinosaurs

Hello May,

What would it be like to live in the time of the dinosaurs?

For the little girl siting next to me at the local café, it would have been great, since she preferred to live in this period. This is what I would have liked, she stated. Her mother was more pragmatic. There were not many things around at the time, she responded, you might have been bored.

This is an important question to start the day with. Are we having more fun now than we would eventually have if we were running around hunting, pray to the elements of nature and to the occasional Tyrannosaurus?

We have more security. In a way. Internet. Mobile phones. If I see a Tyrannosaurus approaching I can call my friends to the rescue, and send them a mms with the exact size of the beast and its location. We run less, which is good and bad at the same time. We have the illusion that we can make it by ourselves. At the era of the dinosaurs we would have to collaborate more.

How about our love life? Would it have been easier?

There might be less time for dating rituals. Life was shorter and people would have to cut to the chase. No doubting, no questioning. No, “does he/she really like me or is he/she just a friend?” No “I feel injured from my last relationship, I am not yet ready for a new one”. No, “is this only physical or is it love?”Yes, or No. And some fighting in case there was competition or difference of opinion. Women were probably as great warriors and hunters as men.

That is how I imagine love at the era of the dinosaurs.

By the way, scientists support that human beings didn’t coexist with dinosaurs. (http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/faq.php#humansanddinos).

But this is just a detail 😉

May 16- Into the woods 3- the Luxembourg garden

Hello dear May,

Yes, I did write for two hours, as I committed myself to do yesterday. At least that is the time I spent on my manuscript. I made a plan and took notes. Instead of working on one topic and stress on the way it advances, I decided to experiment working on three topics simultaneously. They are different, but complementary at the same time.

I did well of that. At lunch time, I was in the whereabouts of the Platform, where a lot of artists, producers, and event organizers meet. I went to the Platform café where I run into N again. N, in case April has not told you, is a guy I have some difficulty communicating with. Yes, I have been attracted to him in the past but we didn’t share a common language. He seemed to like me too, but he was criticizing my lifestyle and I was defensive about it.

Anyway, he confirmed that he will come to my summer event, which is great. He even thinks of spending part of his holidays on the spot, in the south of France, and will arrive two weeks earlier, with friends. He asked me for contacts in order to rent a place to stay.

I will put him in touch with one or two people. I was warm, but business-like and tried to find if he could help other participants with cheap flight/train tickets. He refused, saying he could only find a way out for himself.

But my question is not N. My question is B, my favorite guy. Will I be able to get out of my business-like talk and show some emotion? Will I be capable to tear down the wall that is supposed to keep me safe but also keeps me apart?

B, I don’t care if you like my events or not. (Ok, you’d better do). Let’s go out for a walk, leave your mom and friends for a while and let’s kiss in to the woods.

The weather is beautiful, the sun is shining this weekend and the birds are singing.

So should we!

May 9- Into the Woods again: the Jardin des Plantes

Hello dear May,

you want to know if I have been progressing today? I will give you some elements, so you can be the judge of it!

The day was dedicated to a meeting, concerning a big event which will take place mid-July in Paris. No, not my event in the South of France, which is much smaller, just one day at the end of July; if mine is as big as a teaspoon, the Paris event is as the Eiffel Tower. You see what I mean.

International artists will be present for a week. I participate in the organizing team, and we were to meet in order to discuss practical details like: the final program, where people could stay in the midst of a very touristic period, what they should eat, and also, some suggestions for their free time –if they’ll have any. How to publicize the whole thing, and if we could do it without money: this becomes a habit 😉

I volunteer, and at the same time, learnt a lot, since the other participants have more experience than me in the subject.

The funniest part was the tour that one of the members suggested: he showed us photos and a trajectory of a walk he was proposing: the highlight was a photo of the “Jardin des Plantes”, with a statue of a dinosaur. His suggestion was not approved. But still, it is interesting to see how different views we have on what is valuable in the city.

I am not a big fan of the dinosaur statue, but it is a question of perspective. I agree the “Jardin des Plantes” is a magnificent botanical garden, where as they say “you learn about plants as you walk”. By the way, it was founded by king Louis XIII in 1635 as a garden for medicinal plants.

Maybe I just need to loosen up a little and go “into the woods” to meet the big bad wolf, the dinosaur, or whatever magnificent creature might be hiding there. After all, surprises are possible even in the square close to my home.

It is spring!
